About Us
Sapian Online was conceptualized in May 2002 and finally publicly opened online in June that year. The inspiration for Sapian Online came when Sapianon netizens Anabel Olano-Pekich (Angkin, Poblacion) in Australia and Alfonso Varon (Dapdapan) in New York, came together. Anabel has been hosting a website for the 1985 Sapian National High School batch in Australian MSN site, while Alfonso was developing and maintaining full-blown websites on his own.
Sapian Online is built to create and maintain a cyber-presence for Sapian which will create a venue for all Sapianons worldwide. Towards this mission, Sapian Online envisions the following:
- Link together cyber-Sapianons in Sapian and worldwide.
- Provide a forum for the exchange of news and information.
- Update non-resident Sapianons of the developments in the hometown.
- Organize programs and projects to mobilize resources that will contribute in the development of the town and well being of its people.
In its early stage, Sapian Online will endeavour to provide as much current news and information about Sapian as possible. We are currently undertaking research and gathering materials to provide more historical resources (e.g., folklores and historical accounts, etc.) about our hometown. To facilitate the inflow of information from our town, a Sapian Online coordinator in Sapian has been designated, particularly to document and share with the Sapian Online membership the recent events in the municipality through pictures and news reports. But as outlined in our mission and goals above, we intend to tap as many Sapianons as we can, and, depending on the desire of the membership, organize certain programs and projects (e.g., Sapian National High School scholarship fund, Adopt-a-Sitio project, medical assistance fund, etc.).
To help sustain the site, Sapian Online may also provide certain services in the future that may be required by its clients (e.g., money remittance, phone card service, indigenous gourmet foodstuffs, etc.). We are always on the look out for members who are willing to help us maintain and improve the site. If you want to volunteer your time and talent, please do not hesitate to contact us.
